Introducing Courses for Skill Development of Effective Waste Management Practices

January 18, 2021. The SPPU Research Park Foundation and the Australian Institute of Water Sciences (AIWS) conducted a webinar to introduce their “Environmental Skills Training” courses on January 18, 2021, Tuesday. 

The webinar’s objective was to invite strategic educational institutes, colleges, and universities to participate in a unique collaboration to provide much needed internationally accredited environmental skills training in Water, Waste Water, Solid Waste, Hazardous Waste, and E-Waste.

The webinar started with the opening address by Prof. Nitin Karmalkar, Honorable Vice-Chancellor, SPPU. In his opening remarks, he mentioned that “SPPU and AIWS are working towards preparing the future stakeholders, i.e., students, to understand the various aspects of the environment and resolve the environment-related issues.” In the joint effort with AIWS, he said SPPU Research Park Foundation is bridging the skill gap between the students and the environmental industries. 

Prof. A.D. Shaligram, CEO, SPPU Research Park Foundation, then addressed the webinar and talked about the benefits of the training programs and the SPPU RPF functions. He informed the attendees that SPPU Research Park Foundation and AIWS, in their joint venture, have introduced various short-term and long-term courses to build the necessary skills regarding the environmental concerns amongst the students. 

Prof. Philip Bell, Chairman, and CEO, AIWS, gave a detailed presentation of the Environmental Skills Training Opportunity being provided by SPPU-RPF and AIWS. It included: Environmental Skills Training Opportunity, the benefits of the training program, and the need for environmental skills training in India. He discussed how students could be benefitted from the Environmental Skills training program and cater to the needs of the environmental sector.

Dr. Aditya Abhyankar also spoke about the need for the right skill set for the students’ successful professional life. A Q&A session was held towards the end, where Prof. Philip Bell and the other panelists answered the attendees’ questions. Mr. Dattatraya Devale, Retd. Senior Law Officer MPCB & Director AIWS translated the crucial aspects of the webinar into Marathi. 

The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Atul Bhakta, Operations Director, AIWS. 

The webinar was a great success, with almost 150 people participating in the interactive session and getting their queries resolved.
