DCC: Need of Fresh Waste Management at Landfill in India

278

Did you know India alone generates more than 62 million tonnes of waste every year? Out of which only 60 percent is collected and less than 15 percent is effectively processed. Looking at the severity of waste, the Landfill Management authorities have given strict warnings that there is an urgent need to reclaim or permanently close the prevailing more than 3,000 dumpsites in India. If not, then it will create irreversible damage to the environment as well as public health.  However, the uphill task of managing solid waste has already been started across India. But, a fresh waste management technique is still needed to be implemented to regulate, dispose of, or control the generation of tonnes of waste efficiently. Having said that, let us find how fresh waste management can solve this myriad issue in India effortlessly:

What is Fresh Waste Management?

The improper and poor waste management techniques ranging from illegal or unauthorized waste systems to uncontrollable disposal have negatively impacted our land, water, and soil. Fresh waste management is the solution that not only minimizes the waste but disposes of the same in a systematic manner. While humans produce millions of waste, much of which is not biodegradable.

Many fresh MSW management or collection companies are now taking the initiative to collect, recycle and then reuse the garbage without causing any or less damage to the environment. But the question is how the landfills work in managing tonnes of waste every month or year. Let’s find out?

How Do Landfills Work?

Usually, the long journey of every trash or garbage ends in a landfill and waste management facilities. It is the sorted or safe place where waste, as well as disposable materials, are stored properly. The new-age landfills are now designed using a layering system. It further helps isolate the garbage safely and consistently monitoring byproducts or any other waste that could harm the environment. This is how each layer works:

  1. The first step is to install a layer made of high-quality and high-density plastic to prevent liquids or clay dense coming out of waste with the help of engineers. This process is known as the liner system.
  2. In the drainage system, perforated pipes are installed to collect waste that produces liquids as it decomposes. It further ended up in funnels and being treated by treatment facilities productively.
  3. As decomposition produces a large number of gases like methane, the gas collection system help collect these gases to generate electricity and protecting the atmosphere alike.
  4. In the final stage, the new trash that is covered with enormous dirt, odors, or deters pests is being managed using the process known as bioremediation (a systematic process that uses living organisms such as microbes and bacteria to eliminate contaminants and other toxins from soil, water, and land)

According to landfill gas experts, “the modern landfills are aimings towards the environmental and social responsibility to provide more environmentally friendly alternatives for disposal management.” The new-age landfills have now progressed with meticulously engineering systems, cutting edge solutions, and fresh waste management DCC machines and equipment to minimize almost all the contaminated riks from our land.
